Professor Abdullahi Mahadi Biography: The famous historian and outstanding educator Professor Mahadi held. The distinction of holding the positions of vice chancellor at three different universities:
Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Gombe State University, and Gombe State University of Science and Technology.

Professor Mahadi started his schooling at Warrabe Primary School after being born in Gwoza, Borno State, in December 1945.
Later, he enrolled at Maiduguri’s Gwoza Center School’s Government Craft School.
In 1968, Mahadi continued on to the Advanced Teachers College (ATC), Zaria, where he graduated in 1971 with the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). He continued his education at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Where in 1975 he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History.
He studied in the Master of Arts program at ABU, and earned his Ph.D. there in 1979. And then graduated with a degree in history in 1982.
His Career
At the ABU in Zaria, Prof. Mahadi began his professional career in 1976 as a graduate assistant (History) and quickly advanced through the ranks.
He started up as a graduate assistant in 1976, advanced to assistant lecturer in 1977, and was finally promoted to Lecturer I in 1979.
He was promoted to Lecturer II in 1981. And in 1984, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer. In 1988, he was made Reader, and in 1991, he was made Professor of History.
He lectured in universities in Toronto, Canada, on the spread of Islam in West Africa, in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States, on an overview of Nigerian history, and in Goa, India, at the University of Goa.
Mahadi also sporadically taught at the Nigerian Command and Staff College in Jaji from 1977 until 1998.
Between 1997 and 1998, he also served as a lecturer at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos, Plateau State. Over 90 candidates for the Master’s and Ph.D. degrees have been supervised and tested by Professor Mahadi.

When he was named Vice-Chancellor of the ABU, Zaria, was reputedly the biggest university in black. Sub-Saharan Africa, in 1998, he achieved the apex of his professional career.
Prof. Mahadi was appointed the first vice-chancellor of the newly founded Gombe State University in 2004. By then-Governor Muhammad Danjuma Goje of Gombe State. Where he spent ten years transforming the institution into a great fortress of learning.
Similarly, Prof. Mahadi was reappointed by former governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo in 2018 as the founding. Vice-chancellor of the Gombe State University of Science and Technology, Kumo. Before the institution could start operations, the state’s government did, however, shift.
Mahadi founded an International Institute of Islamic Research and Development that he entirely sponsored when he left his position as vice chancellor at GSU.
In addition, he is the creator of the nonprofit “Abdullahi Mahadi Foundation,” which supports underprivileged and physically challenged kids in their academic endeavors and works to combat desertification.
His Awards
A national CON honor was given to the late professor. The Abusite claims that in 2017, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presented him with an award at the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, ISESCO Headquarters, Rabat, Morocco, for his work on “The Environmental Management and Protection in the Islamic World.”

In 2017, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presented him with an award from the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) for “The Environmental Management and Protection in the Islamic World” for the foundation that had planted thousands of trees.
The prize is the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is granted for exceptional achievement throughout many fields of human endeavor.
Through the organization, the late erudite scholar provided scholarships to more than 300 young people studying in different fields at several universities.
Additionally, he founded and provided funding for an Islamic school in his birthplace of Gwoza LGA, Borno State, some 20 years ago.
In addition to writing more than 47 books and magazines, he also gave more than 70 public speeches around Nigeria. The late history professor was given the title of Commander of the Order of Niger by his country (CON).
A Philanthropist (Professor Abdullahi Mahadi Biography)
Prof. Abdullahi Mahdi donated a portion of his salary over the years to help Zaria and Gombe become greener since he loves the outdoors.

His Death
