Rivers State Governorship Election: In the March 18 governorship election, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate in Rivers State, continues to enjoy a sizable lead in 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
At the release of the results for the 17th LGA, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA, on Sunday evening, Professor Akpofure Rim-Ruke, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the governorship in Rivers State, declared collation closed at the State Collation Center INEC Rivers Office in Port Harcourt.
No candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Tonye Cole or Sen. Magnus Abe of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has come close to winning the results from Tai, the first LGA announced, to the 17th Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA as Fubara’s lead grows.
In order to complete the collation and announce the winner and final standing, Rim-Ruke announced that the exercise would be resumed Monday am.
Rivers State Governorship Election
On March 18, 2023, elections were held for the Rivers State House of Assembly, 27 other gubernatorial races, and all other state houses of assembly. These elections will all take place concurrently with the election of the governor of Rivers State.
The election, originally scheduled for March 11th, took place three weeks after the presidential and legislative elections. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the current PDP governor, is term-limited and is not eligible to run for reelection a third time.
Party primaries were set to take place between 4 April and 9 June 2022. On May 25, the Peoples Democratic Party nominated Siminalayi Fubara, a former state comptroller, while on May 26, the All Progressives Congress nominated Tonye Cole, a businessman.
The Winner of the Election is Sim Fubara
All Rivers APC primaries were declared invalid by a Federal High Court decision on October 25, but the Court of Appeal later overturned the decision in January 2023.

Conclusion
According to the results of the governorship election that has been so far tallied in the state of Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party is in the lead in 17 of the state’s 23 local government areas.
The Labour Party is currently in third place, much behind the Social Democratic Party and the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.
The 17 LGA tabulated results were given to Prof. Akpofura Rim-rukeh, the state returning officer for the election and vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum in Effurum, Delta State.
Rim-rukeh called for the next available result from any of the other councils but received no response, therefore he decided to postpone compiling the results until Monday at exactly 6 o’clock in the evening.
“I will close collation for today if no additional results are ready from the other local governments,” he said. Results gathering will pick back up on Monday.
Tai, Opobo Nkoro LGA, Gokana LGA, Ogu/Bolo, Eleme, Ikwerre, Oyigbo, Etche, Khana, Andoni, Bonny, Ahoada East, Okrika, and the remaining LGAs, Abua-Odual, Emuoha, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, are the LGAs that have so far been compiled.
