Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributed the movie, which was made by Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd.

The movie is a prequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and is the franchise’s fifth and last entry.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas both serve as executive producers for Dial of Destiny, the only movie in the series that neither created nor directed.

Plans for a fifth Indiana Jones movie have existed since the late 1970s when Lucas and Spielberg negotiated four Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) sequels with Paramount.

In 2008, Lucas started looking into potential storylines for a fifth movie, but work on the project froze for years.

The fifth movie was eventually given to Koepp to pen in 2016, with a target release date of 2019, however, this was repeatedly postponed due to rewrites and later the COVID-19 epidemic.

A variety of locations, including the UK, Italy, and Morocco, were used for the filming, which started in June 2021 and ended in February 2022.

It is both the most costly movie ever filmed and the most expensive movie in the Indiana Jones franchise, with a reported production budget of $250–300 million.

On May 18, 2023, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny made its world premiere outside of competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

On June 30, 2023, it was made available in the US. Critics gave the movie mixed reviews, and it has made $142 million worldwide.

What’s the Story Behind Dial of Destiny?

In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, our main character is on the verge of retiring, a guy whose life has taken a turn for the worse, and adventures are a thing of the past.

He is also past his sell-by date. That all changes, though, when his long-lost goddaughter Helena shows up carrying the dial of destiny, an ancient device made by Archimedes.

The Nazis, one of Indy’s old enemies, aren’t far behind, and soon a race against and through time begins as Indy tries to prevent the Nazis’ technology from falling into the wrong hands.

The Nazis intend to use the device to change the course of history for their own gain. Our hero experiences things in the conclusion that he could never have imagined.

When will ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ be on Disney+?

Although a Disney+ release date for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is not yet official, we can hypothesize about it based on recent Disney releases.

The earliest that Indiana Jones 5 can debut on Disney+ is Monday, August 14 (using its US release of June 30 as the beginning point), given Disney releases typically enjoy at least a 45-day exclusive theatrical run.

It could premiere on Wednesday, August 16, as is typical for Disney movies to launch on a Wednesday, but lately, we’ve had to wait longer than anticipated for new Disney movies to be published on Disney+.

While we are still waiting for a confirmed release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it took more than two months for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania to arrive on Disney+ after its theatrical premiere.

Disney might release Indiana Jones 5 for digital purchase before it premieres on streaming services. That could imply that although you can buy or rent it starting in mid-August, you won’t be able to view it on Disney+ until at least mid-September.

This is just conjecture at this point because the success of the new film at the box office may potentially have an impact on its streaming launch. (It took more than four months for the record-breaking Avatar: The Way of Water to arrive on Disney+.)

If you have Disney+, you may watch all four of the Indiana Jones films while you wait or to prepare for the new film.

If you don’t already have a subscription, you can sign up for the streaming service for £7.99 per month or £79.90 for a full year, giving you two months’ worth of access for free.
