The Fellowship Programme is designed to attract fellows, typically PhD students, researchers and professors, who have an advanced level of relevant technical knowledge and experience in any field of the Organization.

They are willing to fulfil their specialized learning objectives and at the same time, contribute their technical expertise and knowledge through time-bound arrangements with FAO. Assignments should be in line with FAO Strategic Objectives and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

General Description of Task(s) and Objectives to Be Achieved

  • The Procurement Associate provides and coordinates day-to-day procurement operations, including specialized complex processes and functions, ensuring consistency, timeliness and conformity with relevant rules, procedures and practices.
  • He / she provides procedural guidance to clients and staff across the Organization regarding procurement rules and procedures.

Supervision Received/Exercised:

  • The Procurement Associate reports to the Assistant FAO Representative (Admin). Work is performed largely autonomous, expressing initiative and independent judgement.
  • Supervision received is focused on the quality of work outputs, to facilitate service delivery.

    Organizational Context
  • This job is found primarily in WFP Field based Offices, and job holders typically report to Programme Policy Officer or Programme Associate. The reporting lines may change depending on the size of the office.
  • At this level work is carried out under minimum supervision. Job holders are expected to produce organised and accurate technical work and reports. They may provide guidance on standard practices to other staff and counterparts in their area of work.
  • The Field Monitoring Assistants will support the planning/design and directly implement all WFP Nigeria process, output and outcome monitoring activities in WFP accessible LGAs of Borno State including Onsite/distribution monitoring, Beneficiary Outreach Monitoring (BOM), Entitlement Monitoring/Basket monitoring, activity implementation monitoring, retailer/shop monitoring in collaboration with supply chain, delivery monitoring and warehouse monitoring in collaboration with logistics and food security outcome monitoring.

General Description of Task(s) and Objectives to Be Achieved
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Country Representative, and the direct supervision of the Deputy FAO Country Representative and the International M&E Officer, in close collaboration with the programme and other units, the M&E Associate will support the strategic and programmatic aspects of the FAO programme in North East Nigeria. The incumbent will perform the following tasks:

  • Assist the FAO Maiduguri Sub office to develop programme/project log frames, particularly in the areas of the results monitoring, objective hierarchy, indicators and monitoring mechanisms, tools, and procedures, and assist in the development of the activity work plans,
  • Develop the overall framework for M&E of programme in line with the FAO Nigeria programme framework as defined in FAO Nigeria Rain and Dry Seasons Programme Documents and Project Log Frames,
  • With implementing Partners, FAO Programme team and M&E Specialist, set out the framework and procedures for the monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
  • Design the framework for the physical and process monitoring of project activities.

Reporting Lines

The fellow will report to an assigned supervisor.

Technical Focus

The fellow will be assigned to different fields of work according to their profile and to the needs of the Organization.

Tasks and responsibilities

The fellow will perform the functions specified in the Terms of Reference (TOR), prepared by the hiring office

before the beginning of the assignment and agreed by the fellow.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) or be enrolled in a PhD programme.
  • Working knowledge of at least one FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish). Knowledge of a second FAO official language will be considered an asset.
  • Only language proficiency certificates from UN accredited external providers and/or FAO language official examinations (LPE, ILE, LRT) will be accepted as proof of the level of knowledge of languages indicated in the online applications.
  • Be nationals of FAO Member Nations
  • Age: no age limits.
  • Candidates should be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment, have good communication skills and be knowledgeable in the use of basic computer programmes.
  • Candidates with family members (defined as brother, sister, mother, father, son or daughter) employed by FAO under any type of contractual arrangement are not be eligible for the Fellowship Programme.
  • Candidates should have appropriate residence or immigration status in the country of assignment.
